About Carlos Ibanez

Carlos Ibanez studied biology at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. His PhD work was conducted at the Leloir Institute (formerly known as Fundacion Campomar) under the direction of Carlos Frasch. The papers published during his PhD are available HERE. Carlos Ibanez did postdoctoral studies at the Karolinska Institute (KI), Sweden, under the direction of the late Hakan Persson. In 1996, he became Professor at the Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institute, with which he has remained affiliated ever since. Since 2004, Carlos Ibanez is a member of the Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institute, the body that awards the Nobel Prize in Physiology Or Medicine. In the Fall of 2012, Carlos became jointly appointed as Professor at the Department of Physiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, NUS. Information about his NUS laboratory can be found HERE. In 2020, he left NUS and moved to Beijing, China, to start a new research group. He is currently Professor at the McGovern Institute and School of Life Sciences in Peking University (PKU) and Principal Investigator at the Chinese Institute for Brain Research (CIBR) with a part-time appointment at KI.
